Hurricanes win close game in third round of NCAA Tournament behind leading scorer Brown

Guard Rion Brown scored 21 points and made five three point shots as the Miami Hurricanes barely beat Illinois 63-59 on Sunday night in the East Regional in the third round of the NCAA Tournament.

Brown is a junior from Hinesville, Ga. He played basketball at Liberty County High School.

In his senior season in high school, Brown scored 22.8 points a game while playing
 at Liberty.

As a freshman at Miami, Brown played 16.9 minutes and scored 4.4 points.

In his sophomre season with the Hurricanes, Brown had an average of 7.2 points and played 19.9 minutes.

This season as a junior, he is averaging 22.1 minutes per game and is scoring 6.5 points.

With their win against Illinois on Sunday, the Hurricanes are advancing to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament for just the second time in program history.

The Hurricanes will play Marquette on Thursday night at 7:15 p.m. The game will be televised on CBS in Washington D.C.

Brown is majoring in sports administration at Miami.
