Hurricanes win close game in third round of NCAA Tournament behind leading scorer Brown

Guard Rion Brown scored 21 points and made five three point shots as the Miami Hurricanes barely beat Illinois 63-59 on Sunday night in the East Regional in the third round of the NCAA Tournament.

Brown is a junior from Hinesville, Ga. He played basketball at Liberty County High School.

In his senior season in high school, Brown scored 22.8 points a game while playing
 at Liberty.

As a freshman at Miami, Brown played 16.9 minutes and scored 4.4 points.

In his sophomre season with the Hurricanes, Brown had an average of 7.2 points and played 19.9 minutes.

This season as a junior, he is averaging 22.1 minutes per game and is scoring 6.5 points.

With their win against Illinois on Sunday, the Hurricanes are advancing to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament for just the second time in program history.

The Hurricanes will play Marquette on Thursday night at 7:15 p.m. The game will be televised on CBS in Washington D.C.

Brown is majoring in sports administration at Miami.

Scott leading scorer in win for Hurricanes in second round game of NCAA Tournament

Guard Durand Scott had 21 points and five made three point shots as the Miami Hurricanes beat Pacific on Friday in the East Regional of the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Scott is a senior from The Bronx, N.Y. He played basketball at Rice High School before coming to the Hurricanes.  

When he was at Rice High School, he was named most valuable player in the state Class 2-A title game in his senior season.

As a freshman at Miami, Scott averaged 10.3 points per game and played 27.8 minutes.

In his spohomore year with the Hurricanes, Scott had an average of 32.8 minutes per game and scored 13.6 points.

As a junior at Miami, he averaged 12.9 points per game and played 33.2 minutes.

This season as a senior, Scott is playing 34.2 minutes per game and is scoring 13.2 points.

His major at Miami is business management.

FAU Senior Mattison has good game for Owls in win

Forward Andre Mattison had 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as FAU beat Florida International University 77-60 on Saturday night. The senior players for the Owls were honored before the game started.

Mattison is a senior from Washington D.C. He went to Coolidge where he played basketball in high school.

During his career at Coolidge, he led the team to a 48-18 mark. As a senior in high school, he was named the most valuable player.

He had a 3.9 grade point average when he graduated from high school with honors.

As a freshman at FAU, Mattison played in 22 games. He averaged 0.7 points a game that season.

In his sophomore season, Mattison played in 20 games. Mattison averaged 1.1 points a game as a Sophomore.

As a junior, he played in 27 games and started two of those games. Mattison scored 1.7 points a game that season.

In his final season as a senior, Mattison is averaging 2.4 points a game. His 14 points on Saturday night were his most points in a game this season. Mattison has also appeared in 28 games this season.

The Owls next game will be against the Troy Trojans on Friday night at 9:30 p.m. in Hot Springs, Ark. in the Sun Belt Conference tournament.

Mattison is a member of the National Honors Society.

Primm not returning as Sailfish head coach

Palm Beach Atlantic University men's head basketball coach Terry Primm will not be returning next season with the Sailfish after six seasons with the school.

The Sailfish went 1-24 under Primm this season. Their only win in the 2012-13 season came on Nov. 14 at Lynn University in Boca Raton, Fla.

His overall coaching record at Palm Beach Atlantic University in six seasons was 36-127.

Primm took over as head coach of the Sailfish in the 2007-08 season. The team went 4-22 under Primm in his first season.

In the 2008-09 season, Primm led the team to a 9-19 record beating Barry University twice that season.

Primm led the Sailfish to a 6-24 record in the 2009-10 season. The Sailfish won the NCCAA South Region championship that season.

In the 2010-11 season under Primm, the team had a record of 12-13. Palm Beach Atlantic played in the Jay McCormick Memorial Classic and the Sailfish classic tournaments that season.

The Sailfish only won four games in the 2011-12 season under Primm.

He was a player with the Sailfish from 1995-1997. Primm was also the recruiting coordinator with the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish.

Primm has a bachelor's degree and a Master's degree from Palm Beach Atlantic University. He has a bachelor's degree in Business Administration. In the Master's program, he has a degree in Organizational Leadership.

Primm has one daughter and currently lives in West Palm Beach, Fla.
