FAU's Dragan Sekelja: Big man on campus

Dragan Sekelja gives something the Owls didn't have last season, which is size in the middle of the basket.

The 7-foot tall center from Croatia is only one of two 7-footers in the Sun Belt Conference. Florida International's Ivan Jukovic is the other 7-foot player in the conference.

Sekelja sat out all of last season after transferring from Baylor University. The redshirt junior mentions that it was difficult for him to sit on the bench.

“Knowing I couldn’t help the team when I knew they could really use me was tough. It was frustrating," Sekelja told the University Press.

Sekelja waited a long time to play college basketball again.

Greg Gantt is a senior guard for the FAU Owls.

In his final season at FAU, he is the third-leading scorer in men's college basketball in the nation. Gantt is only trailing behind Virginia Tech's Erick Green and Creighton's Doug McDermott in scoring in the nation. According to OwlAccess, he is now seventh in the nation in scoring after he scored 13 points in consecutive games.

He is the all-time leading scorer in school history when he broke the record on December 27 against Troy.

Gantt is faster on the court this season due to his 30 pound weight loss. "He's taken a small creature off his back," Owls head coach Mike Jarvis said to the University Press.

Gantt credits the coaching staff for developing as a player. "The coaching staff here has so much knowledge of the game and it's really helped me. My intelligence has improved over four years. I think I'm a better student of the game, which has helped me slow the game down," Gantt said to the University Press.

The Owls next game is on Jan. 31 versus Louisiana-Monroe.
